The priests of the Lord at that time were the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas.  \nOnce, after they offered sacrifices, Elkanah's wife, Hannah, prayed to have a son.  \nShe made this promise to the Lord: “If you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours and serve you for his entire lifetime.”  \nLater, Hannah gave birth to a son and named him Samuel, because she asked the Lord for him.  \nWhen Hannah had weaned Samuel, she took him to the Tabernacle at Shiloh.
