Years of raids destroyed the Israelites’ crops and left them with nothing to eat, driving families to hide in caves and hillside safe places. After seven years, the people cried to the Lord for help. Gideon, visited by an angel, is instructed to rescue Israel and to destroy his father’s altar to Baal, building an altar to the Lord.","038 Gideon \nJudges 6:1-7:14 \nEnglish Spiritual \n038 Gideon \nEnglish \n© 2020 Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. So God allowed their enemies, the Midianites to become stronger than them. \nThe Israelites planted crops every year only to have their enemies come and destroy them. There were so many of them, they seemed like clouds of locusts. \nThey destroyed the Israelites’ grain crops. They did not leave anything for the Israelites to eat. \nSo the Israelites hid in caves and other safe places up in the hills. Finally, after seven years, the Israelites cried out to the Lord for His help against the Midianites. \nWhile Gideon, son of Joash, was working, an angel of the Lord came and sat under a tree nearby. He said,“The Lord is with you oh brave man! Go in strength and rescue Israel from the Midianites” \nGod instructed Gideon to destroy his father’s altar to Baal and build an altar to the Lord.","cbCaiuX77uEyzRyF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuX77uEyzRyF","pdf",4135480,1,26,"English","en",105,"# Judges 6:1–7:14 Context\n## Israel’s sin and Midianite oppression\n## Gideon’s calling and divine instructions","[{\"question\":\"Why were the Israelites oppressed by the Midianites?\",\"answer\":\"The Israelites sinned against God by worshipping foreign gods.
